One-sided $C_{p}$ estimates via $M^{\sharp }$ function

We recall that $w\in C_{p}^+$ if there exist $\varepsilon >0$ and $C>0$ such that for any $a< b< c$ with $c-b< b-a$ and any measurable set $E\subset (a,b)$, the following holds
\[ \int_{E}w\leq C\left(\frac{|E|}{(c-b)}\right)^{\varepsilon}\int_{\mathbb{R}}\left(M^+\chi_{(a,c)}\right)^{p}w<\infty. \]This condition was introduced by Riveros and de la Torre [33] as a one-sided counterpart of the $C_{p}$ condition studied first by Muckenhoupt and Sawyer [30, 34]. In this paper we show that given $1< p< q<\infty$ if $w\in C_{q}^+$ then\[ \|M^+f\|_{L^{p}(w)}\lesssim\|M^{\sharp,+}f\|_{L^{p}(w)} \]and conversely if such an inequality holds, then $w\in C_{p}^+$. This result is the one-sided counterpart of Yabuta's main result in [37]. Combining this estimate with known pointwise estimates for $M^{\sharp,+}$ in the literature we recover and extend the result for maximal one-sided singular integrals due to Riveros and de la Torre [33] obtaining counterparts a number of operators.

Herbicide management information is lacking for recently developed turf-type bahiagrass germplasm. The objective of this study was to evaluate the herbicide tolerance of nine experimental bahiagrass genotypes compared to the industry standard ‘Argentine’. The experimental entries included Argentine and ‘Wilmington’ mutants, and wild-type breeding lines. Plants were grown under greenhouse conditions, and 12 herbicides were applied at 1× and 2× labeled rates. Bentazon, bromoxynil, carfentrazone + 2,4-D + MCPP + dicamba, and carfentrazone were classified as safe. Fluroxypyr, halosulfuron, and triclopyr + clopyralid reduced growth >50% when applied at twice the label rate. Fenoxaprop, sulfentrazone + imazethapyr, and thiencarbazone + iodosulfuron + dicamba reduced growth and caused turfgrass injury above an acceptable threshold (≥20%). In general, the Argentine mutants showed greater herbicide injury compared to the Wilmington mutants. However, metsulfuron exceeded the acceptable injury threshold and stopped growth in all the genotypes, Argentine and genotype WT6 were the least injured by this herbicide. The experimental genotype WT6 consistently showed the greatest herbicide tolerance. Except for one genotype (WT4), the experimental genotypes responded similarly or better than Argentine to the tested herbicides, except for metsulfuron.
Musical hallucinations revisited

Background and aims:
Musical hallucinations are a rare phenomenon in clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical spectrum of musical hallucinations.
Method:We analysed demographic and clinical features of cases published in English, Italian, French or Spanish between 1991 and 2006 registered in MEDLINE, including three of our own cases. The cases were separated into four groups according to their main diagnoses (hearing impairment; psychiatric disorder; neurological disorder; toxic or metabolic disorder).
Results:115 patients with musical hallucinations were included, of which 63.5% were female. The mean age was 57,25 years. Main diagnoses were: psychiatric disorder (46.1%; schizophrenia 30.4%), neurological disorder (21,7%), hearing impairment (17,4%), toxic or metabolic disorder (12.2%) and 2.6% other diagnoses.
61.7% patients presented simple diagnoses while 36.5% presented two or more diagnoses. 2.1% of patients didn't receive any diagnoses. 35.7% of patients and 60.9% of non psychiatric patients presented hearing impairment.
Both instrumental and vocal were the more frequent musical hallucinations and most of the patients had insight about the abnormality of their perceptions. Another kind of hallucinations was present in 40.9% of patients, auditory hallucinations being the most common. Also, 38,3% of the global sample had abnormalities in brain structural image (MRI, CT).
Conclusions:Musical hallucinations are a heterogeneous phenomenon in clinical practice. published cases describe them as more common in women and in psychiatric and neurological patients. Hearing impairment seem to be an important risk factor in the development of musical hallucinations.

Aim of study
to investigate the consequences of chronic psychosocial stress on behavior, endocannabinoids and CBR expression in prefrontal cortex (PFC) and striatum of mice.
Materials and MethodsPsychosocial stress was induced in adult C57Bl/6 mice by resident-intruder paradigm (Brzózka et al. 2011). After 3 weeks daily exposure to psychosocial stress for 1 hour, animals were studied during the rodent active phase (night) by behavioral tests such as Functional Observational Battery (FOB), Rota-Rod (R-R), Open Field (OF), Prepulse Inhibition test (PPI). After behavioral testing, mice were sacrificed. 4 mice brains (prefrontal cortex, dorsal striatum) were studied by LC-MS to estimate the concentration of anandamide (AEA), 2- arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), N-oleoylethanolamine (OEA), palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) (coll. di Marzo). In Situ Hybridization (ISH)and Immunohistochemistry (IHCH) against CB1 receptor were performed on free floating brain coronal sections fixed by 4% paraformaldehyde (coll del Río).
Results1. After psychosocial stress, mice displayed lower body weight (p<0.01), higher scratching and miccions activity compared to controls (p<0.05), decreased number of falls (p<0.01) and increased latency (p<0.05) in Rotarod. No effects in PPI were found. 2. In the same mice psychosocial stress reduced AEA levels in dorsal striatum and PFC (p<0.05). Endocannabinoids significantly showed an inverse relationship in PFC compared to striatum in control mice (AEA, p<0.001; 2-AG, p<0.001; OEA, p<0.001) and in psychosocially stressed mice (PEA, p<0.001; OEA, p<0.001). 3. Psychosocial stress increased the protein CBR1 expression in striatum (p<0.05) but not in prefrontal cortex.
ConclusionChronic psychosocial stress significantly changes behavior, endocannabinoids, CB receptor function and the striatal-cortical connectivity. These changes may contribute to vulnerability for psychosis and addiction.

Introduction
Previous studies suggest a relationship between decreased serum cholesterollevels and impulsive/aggressive behaviors [1]; howeverwe found just one study in the literature based in eating disorder [2].
AimsTo investigate the potentialrelationship between lipid profile (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides) andmeasures of impulsivity, aggression or suicidal behavior in a sample of nevertreated patient whit Eating disorder and healthy controls.
MethodsThe first episode of eatingdisorders group consisted of 199 (age range 14-60) subjects included in DETECTAprogram of Cantabria, Spain, from 2011 to 2013. Other group of 199healthy controls were initially recruited from the community and matched by ageand gender. Socio-demographic information was collected for each subject. Clinicalcharacteristics were ascertained either from clinical charts or by directquestioning the study participants. Lifetime diagnosis of impulse control wasassessed with questionnaires developed ad hoc. Impulsivity was evaluated using self-administered questionnaires, EatingDisorder Inventory and Cloninger's Temperament and Character Inventory.
ResultsDifferences found betweensubgroups did not differ from those shown in the literature, with higher levelsof impulsivity in the group of Bulimia. However in the partial correlation we did not find a relationship betweencholesterol levels and Impulsivity. We neither found this relationshipbetween suicide attempts, pathological gambling, compulsive buying disorder, self-harm or kleptomania.
ConclusionsAlthough the biological mechanism between plasma hypocholesterolemia andimpulsive behavior has not been fully elucidated this relationship has beenestablished in others pathologies [3], howeverin eating disorders so far, this theory has not been proved.

Introduction
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is an uncommon but potentially fatal adverse effect of neuroleptic, both classic and atypical drugs.
ObjectiveTo review the incidence, clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of NMS.
AimWe have described the case of a man of 32 years of age diagnosed with bipolar disorder treated with lithium. He precised high-dose corticosteroids after having tonsillitis. Then, he presented manic decompensation requiring neuroleptic treatment (oral risperidone). After 72 hours, he presented an episode characterized by muscular rigidity, fever, altered mental status and autonomic dysfunction. Life support measures and suspension of neuroleptic treatment were required.
MethodsA literature review of the NMS was performed using the PubMed database.
ResultsThe frequency of NMS ranges from 0.02 to 2.4%. The pathophysiology is not clearly understood but the blockade of dopamine receptors seems to be the central mechanism. Some of the main risk factors described are: being a young adult, the concomitant use of lithium and metabolic causes, among others. NMS occurs most often during the first week of treatment or after increasing the dosage of the neuroleptic medication. Some issues of NMS are those related with diagnosis, treatment and reintroduction of antipsychotic treatment or not.
ConclusionsNMS can be difficult to diagnose due to the variability in the clinical symptoms and presentation. Because of it diagnosis is of exclusion, clinicians should always take it into consideration when a patient is treating with neuroleptic, especially when the dosage has been recently increased. NMS is a clinical emergency.

Introduction
Glucocorticoids are widely prescribed for a variety of diseases and are known to cause neuropsychiatric as well as somatic side effects.
ObjectiveTo review the incidence, clinical characteristics, course and treatment of neuropsychiatric effects of glucocorticoids.
AimWe have described the case of a 86-year-old woman. She had no personal and no psychiatric medical history in her family. She presented wrist arthritis requiring high doses of an oral corticoid treatment (prednisona 20 mg/d). After a week, she started with symptoms characterised by persecutory and surveillance delusions. Organicity was ruled out. The patient got a progressive recovery after starting anti-psychotic medication and progressive reduction of the steroid drugs.
MethodsWe have performed a literature review of the neuropsychiatric complications of glucocorticoids using the PubMed database.
ResultsNeuropsychiatric effects of glucocorticoids involve affective, behavioural, and cognitive manifestations. The incidence is variable, between 2 and 60% of patients who receive steroids. Although the effects of glucocorticoids are unpredictable, the administered dose is the most significant risk factor for the development of neuropsychiatric symptoms. Dosage reduction typically results in clinical recovery. Although the limited data on this subject, it is a problem that clinicians face on their regular basis. The administration of anti-psychotics or mood stabilizers may be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of this syndrome.
ConclusionThe neuropsychiatric effects of glucocorticoids are unpredictable and non-specific. More controlled trials are needed in order to perform evidence-based clinical guidelines for the treatment with glucocorticoids and for the prevention of neuropsychiatric manifestations.

We present a model for capillary-scale objects that bounce on a fluid bath as they also translate horizontally. The rebounding objects are hydrophobic spheres that impact the interface of a bath of incompressible fluid whose motion is described by linearised quasi-potential flow. Under a quasi-normal impact assumption, we demonstrate that the problem can be decomposed into an axisymmetric impact onto a quiescent bath surface, and the unforced evolution of the surface waves. We obtain a walking model that is free of impact parametrisation and we apply this formulation to model droplets walking on a vibrating bath. We show that this model accurately reproduces experimental reports of bouncing modes, impact phases and time-dependent wave field topography for bouncing and walking droplets. Moreover, we revisit the modelling of horizontal drag during droplet impacts to incorporate the effects of the changes in the pressed area during droplet–surface contacts. Finally, we show that this model captures the recently discovered phenomenon of superwalkers.

Androgens have been shown to exert a cysticidal effect upon Taenia crassiceps, an experimental model of cysticercosis. To further inquire into this matter, the Taenia crassiceps model was used to evaluate the expression of several proteins after testosterone (T4) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in vitro treatment. Under 2-D proteomic maps, parasite extracts were resolved into approximately 130 proteins distributed in a molecular weight range of 10–250 kDa and isoelectrical point range of 3–10. The resultant proteomic pattern was analysed, and significant changes were observed in response to T4 and DHT. Based on our experience with electrophoretic patterns and proteomic maps of cytoskeletal proteins, alteration in the expression of isoforms of actin, tubulin and paramyosin and of other proteins was assessed. Considering that androgens may exert their biological activity in taeniids through the non-specific progesterone receptor membrane component (PGRMC), we harnessed bioinformatics to propose the identity of androgen-regulated proteins and establish their hypothetical physiological role in the parasites. These analyses yield a possible explanation of how androgens exert their cysticidal effects through changes in the expression of proteins involved in cytoskeletal rearrangement, dynamic vesicular traffic and transduction of intracellular signals.

Disease prioritization is motivated by the need to ensure that limited resources are targeted at the most important problems to achieve the greatest benefit in improving and maintaining human and animal health. Studies have prioritized a range of disease types, for example, zoonotic and foodborne diseases, using a range of criteria that describe potential disease impacts. This review describes the progression of disease prioritization methodology from ad hoc techniques to decision science methods (including multi-criteria decision analysis, conjoint analysis and probabilistic inversion), and describes how these methods aid defensible resource allocation. We discuss decision science in the context of disease prioritization to then review the development of disease prioritization studies. Structuring the prioritization and assessing decision-makers' preferences through value trade-offs between criteria within the decision context are identified as key factors that ensure transparency and reproducibility. Future directions for disease prioritization include the development of validation techniques, guidelines for model selection and neuroeconomics to gain a deeper understanding of decision-making.
A new carnivorous sponge, Chondrocladia robertballardi sp. nov. (Porifera: Cladorhizidae) from two north-east Atlantic seamounts

Carnivorous sponges (Porifera: Cladorhizidae) are a particularly interesting group of species typically occurring in deep-sea habitats. In this study a new species, Chondrocladia (Chondrocladia) robertballardi sp. nov., is described from specimens collected on two large north-east Atlantic seamounts – the Gorringe and Galicia Banks – located off the Iberian Peninsula. The holotype, collected on the Gorringe Bank by ROV, is a large, dichotomously branched and stalked sponge with translucent spheres in the middle of secondary axes and a rhizoid basal fixation system. Direct observations on the habit of the new species were made from the ROV. The paratypes, collected on the Galicia Bank by dredge and trawling, are fragments of different sizes. The skeleton is composed of a single class of styles and isochelae. All specimens were collected at similar depths (1400–1738 m) within the upper bathyal, and at the same longitude but separated by 670 km. A synthesis of the geographic as well as bathymetric distribution of this genus is presented. The species is compared with all known species of this genus worldwide.
Seasonality of above-ground net primary productivity along an Andean altitudinal transect in Peru

Solar irradiance and precipitation are the most likely drivers of the seasonal variation of net primary productivity (NPP) in tropical forests. Since their roles remain poorly understood, we use litter traps, dendrometer bands and census data collected from one hectare permanent plots to quantify the seasonality of above-ground NPP components and weather parameters in 13 sites distributed along a 2800-m altitudinal gradient ranging from lowland Amazonia to the high Andes. We combine canopy leaf area index and litterfall data to describe the seasonality of canopy production. We hypothesize that solar irradiance is the primary driver of canopy phenology in wetter sites, whereas precipitation drives phenology in drier systems. The seasonal rhythm of canopy NPP components is in synchrony with solar irradiance at all altitudes. Leaf litterfall peaks in the late dry season, both in lowland (averaging 0.54 ± 0.08 Mg C ha y−1, n = 5) and montane forests (averaging 0.29 ± 0.04 Mg C ha y−1, n = 8). Peaks in above-ground coarse woody NPP appears to be triggered by the onset of rainfall in seasonal lowland rain forests (averaging 0.26 ± 0.04 Mg C ha y−1, n = 5, in November), but not in montane cloud forests.

Objective
To examine the use of vitamin D supplements during infancy among the participants in an international infant feeding trial.
DesignLongitudinal study.
SettingInformation about vitamin D supplementation was collected through a validated FFQ at the age of 2 weeks and monthly between the ages of 1 month and 6 months.
SubjectsInfants (n 2159) with a biological family member affected by type 1 diabetes and with increased human leucocyte antigen-conferred susceptibility to type 1 diabetes from twelve European countries, the USA, Canada and Australia.
ResultsDaily use of vitamin D supplements was common during the first 6 months of life in Northern and Central Europe (>80 % of the infants), with somewhat lower rates observed in Southern Europe (>60 %). In Canada, vitamin D supplementation was more common among exclusively breast-fed than other infants (e.g. 71 % v. 44 % at 6 months of age). Less than 2 % of infants in the USA and Australia received any vitamin D supplementation. Higher gestational age, older maternal age and longer maternal education were study-wide associated with greater use of vitamin D supplements.
ConclusionsMost of the infants received vitamin D supplements during the first 6 months of life in the European countries, whereas in Canada only half and in the USA and Australia very few were given supplementation.

Ultrastructural study of the optic nerve in blind mole-rats (Spalacidae, Spalax)

The optic nerve in two species of subterranean mole-rats (Spalacidae) has been examined at the ultrastructural level. The axial length of the eye and the diameter of the optic nerve are 1.9 mm and 52.5 μm in Spalax leucodon, and 0.7 mm and 80.8 μm in Spalax ehrenbergi, respectively. An anti-glial fibrillary acidic protein postembedding procedure was used to distinguish glial cell processes from axons. In both species, the optic nerve is composed exclusively of unmyelinated axons and a spatial distribution gradient according to the size or the density of fibers is lacking. The optic nerve of S. leucodon contains 1790 fibers ranging in diameter from 0.07–2.30 μm (mean = 0.57 μm), whereas in S. ehrenbergi, only 928 fibers, with diameters of 0.04–1.77 μm (mean = 0.53 μm) are observed. In S. ehrenbergi, a higher proportion of glial tissue is present and the fascicular organization of optic fibers is less obvious. Distribution gradients according to size frequency or density of fibers in the optic nerve are absent in both species. Comparison with other mammals suggests that although ocular regression in microphthalmic species is correlated with a significant decrease in the total number of optic fibers and the relative proportion of myelinated fibers, no difference in the absolute size range of unmyelinated axons is observed. The total absence of myelinated fibers in Spalax may be related to the subcutaneous location of the eyes. The unique presence of unmyelinated fibers in the optic nerve is discussed in relation to the possible conservation of a single class of W-like ganglion cells in the retina, in relation to photoperiodic perception.
Prevalence and characteristics of Escherichia coil serotype O157:H7 and other verotoxin-producing E. coli in healthy cattle

From February to July of 1994, 328 faecal samples from 32 herds were collected and verotoxin-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC) found on 84% of the farms. The proportion of animals infected varied from 0–63%. VTEC were recovered from 52 (20%) of 257 cows and from 16 (23%) of 71 calves. Although the VTEC belonged to 25 different serogroups, 7 (O8. O20, O22, O77, O113, O126 and O162) accounted for 46% of strains. Nearly 45% of the 83 bovine VTEC strains belonged to serogroups associated with haemorrhagic colitis and haemolytic uraernic syndrome in humans. However, only 2 (2%) of 83 VTEC strains isolated from cattle belonged to enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) serotypes (O26:H11 and O157:H7), and only 8 (10%) were positive for the attaching and effacing E. coli (eae) gene sequence. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) showed that 17 (20%) of VTEC strains carried VT1 genes. 43 (52%) possessed VT2 genes, and 23 (28%) carried both VT1 and VT2 genes. Characterization of VTEC isolates revelated a heterogeneous population in terms of serogroup and toxin type in the positive herds. This study confirms that healthy cattle are a reservoir of VTEC, but, the absence of eae genes in most bovine VTEC strains suggests that they may be less virulent for humans than eae-positive EHEC.
